Arsenal travel to Tyneside this weekend as they face Newcastle in one of the big games of the Premier League action. Should Liverpool be eight points clear, only a victory will do for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners to keep the title race alive.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have been particularly difficult to break down this term and have leaked just three goals. Eddie Howe’s men have solidified at the back, but their attacking purple patch remains a work in progress following Alexander Isak’s departure last summer. The midweek four-goal salvo against Bradford has offered hope that their front line is beginning to click.
Two of the league’s sturdiest defences going head to head in what should be an exciting cauldron at St James’.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Team News
Newcastle can recall Anthony Gordon from suspension for the first time in three matches, increasing Howe’s attacking options further. Deadline Day buy Yoane Wissa continues to nurse a knee problem, but the likes of Nick Pope and Sandro Tonali, as well as Nick Woltemade and Valentino Liveramento should all be involved. Joe Willock might also play against his former club.
Arsenal – Noni Madueke will be out several weeks with a knee injury. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are also out. Bukayo Saka is fit after a bad tackle in the clash with Port Vale but Josh Dasilva (hip) remains sidelined, and Eberechi Eze should make another start on the back of some fine recent displays. Martin Odegaard has trained twice after his shoulder problem and may be involved. Arteta lauded the Norwegian midfielder’s fitness and ability to play more or less unprepared.
Newcastle vs Arsenal Prediction
The Gunners have found goals hard to come by in St James’ Park in recent years, drawing three blanks on the bounce. Newcastle continue to struggle in front of goal, so that could play into Arsenal’s hands and make for a scrappy game.
Prediction: Arsenal to win 1-0.
